NITI Aayog plans to invest Rs 75 billion in AI infrastructure
To create an institutional framework for artificial intelligence (AI) in the country, the NITI Aayog has drawn up an investment plan to pump in Rs 75 billion for the development of Artificial Intelligence infrastructure in the country. The note proposes that the new government pump in Rs 75 billion initially over a three-year period and set up a high-level task force to oversee roll-out and implementation of AI. NITI Aayog plans to invest Rs 75 billion in AI infrastructure once new government comes into force in India.
The proposal entails investing in funding five institutes or centres of research excellence (CORE), 20 international centres for transformational AI (ICTAI) and setting up a cloud computing platform called AIRAWAT that can be accessed by anyone.
The entire AI mission will be monitored by a task force, to be headed by a member of NITI Aayog with representation from all ministries and states besides experts as its key members
